Harmon Science Olympiad

For several years, Harmon has had a Science Olympiad Team. It is comprised of third, fourth, and fifth grade students as well as parent coaches. Mrs. Fenn, Harmon third grade teacher, heads up the entire team and coordinates the parent coaches, events, and practices. The final competition will look very different this year, but students will still be able to compete against other school teams (with safety measures in place). The Harmon Team is limited to only 15 students.

Mrs. Fenn will be hosting a Science Olympiad informational Zoom meeting on Wednesday, January 13th at six o’clock in the evening. Third, fourth, and fifth grade families can join the meeting from home, work, or wherever you may be as long as you have Wi-Fi or a smart phone. The meeting will help to explain what Science Olympiad is, the events, and what is required of participants. By clicking on the heading for this article, you will be able to access the additional information that also contains the Zoom link.

Harmon Picture Retake Day

Picture Retake Day will be taking place on Monday, January 11th for Cohort A students and also on Friday, January 15th for Cohort B students. This will be for students that would like to have their fall photo retaken, or for any students that missed the fall picture days. Please note that if you are having your child's photo retaken you will need to return the original picture package on your retake day. Retake photos will be completed during the morning on both days.

Spirit Days for the First Week Back to School:

We will be having a special Hat Day the first week in January. Cohort A will have Hat Day on Tuesday, January 5th while Cohort B will celebrate Hat Day on Friday, January 8th. Students are able to wear a favorite hat all day during school. Start looking for that favorite hat and make plans to wear it to school.

Hawk Heroes Sponsor Food Drive

Our Harmon Hawk Heroes are sponsoring a Thanksgiving Basket Food Drive. Now through November 19th students are able to bring in nonperishable food items to donate for local families in need. To make things a little easier, there are some suggested donations for each grade level:
Kindergarten: canned pumpkin, evaporated milk, pie shells
First Grade: rice, instant potatoes, boxed stuffing
Second Grade: canned yams, canned green beans, canned corn
Third Grade: cream of mushroom soup, chicken broth
Fourth Grade: cranberry sauce, raspberry jello, brownie/cake mixes
Fifth Grade: cornbread mix, cereal, flour
Donations are voluntary. Boxes for the items are located in the main hallway and students can place the donated items there. Please be sure to have your items in by November 19th so our Hawk Heroes can create the baskets and get them to local families. Thanks for your help!

Fall Conferences

November is upon us and that means that it’s time to gear up for Parent & Teacher Conferences. Conferences will take place the evening of Wednesday, November 11th and the afternoon and evening of Thursday, November 12th. Our fall conferences will be different this year as they will be held via Zoom or telephone. While this is a bit less personal, it does allow for you to attend conferences from the comfort of your own home, during a break at work, or from out of town…as long as you have a wifi connection. Each teacher has blocked time for parents to sign up for a conference. You can see the available conference times by using Signup Genius. To get to a teacher’s Signup Genius page you can easily click on their link. If you have multiple children, you can click on each teacher’s link and then select a time. The links were emailed out to families. You can also access the links by clicking on the title of this news article. Please be sure to sign up for a time slot!

Class Halloween Celebrations

The celebrations for Cohort A students will take place on Wednesday, October 28th and the celebrations for Cohort B students will take place on Friday, October 30th. Despite not being able to have the parent volunteers, we are going to try to keep things as close as possible to our normal Halloween festivities. While we don’t wear our costumes to school, we will have our Orange & Black Spirit Day. Students can wear the colors orange or black on their class celebration day. Since we will be working around specials classes and NWEA testing, each teacher will be holding their class celebration at a different time. Start digging through your closets and drawers to find the correct colors to wear. Students can even wear a hat that is orange or black.
